Tool Fabrication Corporation ("Tool Fab") was started in 1970 as a manufacturer of special carbide-tipped (TCT) cutting tools. Tool Fab was acquired by Tool Service Corporation, a Milwaukee-based industrial distributor, and was later "spun-off" to individual investors headed by Mr. Bruno Mauer. Since its inception, Tool Fab has sold its products through a network of independent tooling distributors throughout North America.
In the mid 1980's, Tool Fab invested in its manufacturing technology by acquiring several CNC machining centers. Key employees were added in manufacturing (machining and grinding), engineering and customer service to take advantage of a growing market trend in metal working - indexable cutting tools. As demand for special indexable tooling increased, Tool Fab continued to invest in additional CNC equipment and employees to offer the best special tooling in the industry at lead times that are second to none.
In the mid 1990's Tool Fab added a CNC Tool & Cutter Grinder which was later replaced by new state-of-the-art equipment in 1999. During the 1990's Tool Fab's base of distributors grew and its name and reputation in the market began to solidify. Jeff Hesse took over as President in 1997. Throughout the later part of the 1990's Tool Fab developed its own standard products to supplement its expertise in specials. These standard tools included Indexable Port Tools, Indexable Carbide Shank Boring Bars, Indexable Cap-Screw Counterbores, Indexable Chamfer Mills and Standard ISO Cartridges.
In 2000, Tool Fab was acquired by Jeff Hesse and Lisa Mauer (Tool Service's President) as a result of the retirement of Bruno Mauer (Lisa's dad).
In March, 2001 Tool Fab acquired its first tool manufacturing company - Schmarje Thread Mill Company (Muscatine, Iowa). Schmarje's assets were relocated to Tool Fab's Milwaukee plant for immediate thread mill production. The acquisition of Schmarje added solid carbide and TCT Thread Mills to Tool Fab's growing product offering.
In April, 2003 Tool Fab acquired its second tool manufacturing company - McCrosky Tool Corporation (Meadville, Pennsylvania). McCrosky's assets were relocated to Tool Fab's Milwaukee plant and full production of McCrosky tools started almost immediately. The acquisition of McCrosky added adjustable reamers, Nobursink deburring/chamfering/countersinking tools, serrated bladed milling cutters (HSS/TCT) and Wizard quick-change tooling to Tool Fab's product line.
Also in 2003, Tool Fab invested in state-of-the-art 3D solid modeling software for tool design and engineering. Tool Fab continued to be an industry leader in manufacturing quality special tooling, providing technical customer support services at prices and delivery lead times that are the most competitive in the industry.
In early 2004, Tool Fab introduced its new 4-color Product Catalog (38 pages). Tool Fab's Product Catalog is downloadable off of this web site.
In July, 2004 Tool Fab acquired its third tool company - RK Cutting Tools, LLC (Hudson, Ohio). RK's assets were relocated to Tool Fab's Milwaukee plant for production of Ball Nose Roughing & Finishing Milling Cutters & Inserts. These Ball Nose cutters are part of Tool Fab's Ball Nose Tooling Catalog (16 pages) that is also downloadable off of this web site.
