Ministry of finance announced the unit list of rare earth and rare metal new materials R & D and industrialization projects that received financial subsidies, 42 enterprises including many listed company. Although we don’t know how much the subsidies are at present, the measure of financial Ministry showed that the government supported the industry of metal new materials.

From the list, we see that rare earth new materials relate to magnetic material, luminescent material, catalysis material, hydrogen storage material and polishing material. Among of them, rare earth catalysis material to purify automobile exhaust is big highlights. And rare earth magnetic material developed towards high-performance direction.

At present, the listed companies of rare earth include Shanghai Aipusheng Magnetism Devices of Chinese Academy of Science Sanhuan subsidiary, Jiangxi Guangsheng rare earth of Guangsheng Non-ferrous subsidiary, Xiamen tungsten, BGRIMM Magnetic Materials, China Steel Tianyuan and Taiyuan corundum. The projects of these listed companies are mostly rare earth magnetic materials. Only the planning subsidy projects of Jiangxi Giangsheng rare earth and Xiamen tungsten are separately luminescent materials and rare earth stored energy materials for dynamic battery.

So we can see that magnetic material is treated as the first feature in the development of national rare earth functional materials. But many experts told in the interview that the most profitable material in the functional material is not permanent magnet, but emerging materials, such as optical, catalysis, hydrogen storage. Although part of variety happened to development bottleneck, like the absolute usage amount of luminescent material will decrease as LED promotion, small amount, high price and high-quality will be the successful method and also the development field that enterprises put forth effort.

The varieties of rare metal new materials in the list are mainly metal target material, hard alloy, metal material of nuclear level etc. Both of Western material and Advanced Technology and Material have projects in the list, separately the development and industrialization of high-quality tungsten molybdenum wide and thick plates and large size and high-purity rare metal target material project.
