Silestone - Quartz Counter Tops

Post Date: 07 Apr 2009    Viewed: 645

The most well known brand for quartz counter top surfacing is Silestone, which is considered to be one of the leading materials for counter-top use worldwide. Silestone is known for combining strength and beauty to create a superior choice when it comes to surfaces in both the home and office. Silestone is most widely used for surfacing purposes in the kitchen. Both timeless beauty and sophisticated elegance can be found within Silestone, along with any other stone counter top. Silestone delivers beautiful natural quartz, which is deep, radiant, cool and solid. The clarity in the quartz counter tops produced by Silestone is brilliant. These characteristics are unique to natural stone, meaning that you cannot recreate them in Formica, butcher block, or other man made materials.

Silestone, along with many other natural stone counter top materials, is incredibly versatile meaning that it can be used for a wide variety of surfacing uses, like kitchen counter tops, surrounding areas for tubs and showers, vanities in bathrooms, walls, table tops, fireplace surrounds, wet bars, desktops and backsplashes just to name a few. Diamond, Sapphire and Topaz are the only natural materials that are harder than quartz, meaning that they are the only things that will cut or scratch the stone. Because people tend not to use diamonds, sapphires or topaz in the kitchen, you can rest assured that your quartz counter tops will be naturally resistant to scratching. Silestone is not completely scratch proof, which means you may still be able to damage it if you put the right amount of pressure.

Silestone is known for having at least four times more strength than granite, which means that it is less susceptible to cracking and chipping, especially during transportation and installation activities. Because Silestone is non-porous, it is not susceptible to stains like granite is, which means you do not have to worry about liquids like wine, coffee, make up, olive oil and vinegar which may harm other counter top surfaces, like granite.

Silestone counter tops are polished to perfection and maintenance free as you do not need to seal it as you would need to seal a granite counter top every so often. Soapy water or even a household cleaner that is fairly mild will keep the surface clean easily, without a hassle. Abrasive cleaners like for ovens and floors may harm the surface, so only use gentle products when cleaning your Silestone quartz counter top surface.
