Shougang’s steel output has been slashed from eight million tons in 2008 to just four million tons now, said Zhu Jimin, chairman of the mill. The resettlement of the last batch of 22,000 laid-off workers as a result of closures will be properly solved this year with about 11,000 new jobs to be created for them at new plants and novel industries developed by Shougang.
