Cut-off wheels are used to cut or severe materials to prescribed dimensions. Cut-off wheels compete with the shear, .the saw and flame cutting. These wheels are available with or without reinforcing; the need for reinforcing depends upon the severity of the operation.
Cut-off (Reinforced)
Cut-off wheels containing one or two strengthening fabric or filaments incorporated throughout the entire diameter are referred to as "Reinforced wheels" Reinforced wheels are designed to resist breakage caused by severe cross bending. All portable cut-off,swing frame, locked head push through, and foundry chop stroke operations require reinforced cut-off wheels. In addition, a reinforced cut-off wheel is required on any operation where the grinding machine is hand guided or where the work is not securely clamped. Wheels are straight configuration with diameters usually ranging form 75mm to 500mm. The wheel thickness is determined by grit size, construction and wheel diameter; however, maximum thickness is less than 6mm.
