Brown fused alumina is electrically fused in an arc furnace from a mixture of bauxite, coke (anthracite) as main raw materials at high temperature. Its chemical composition contains Al2O3,TiO2, a small amount of SiO2, and Fe2O3,ect.Toughness is higher than silicon carbide. Abrasive articles made of it are suited for grinding metals of high--tensile strenghth such as steel, annealed malleable iron and hard high--class refractory products.
