This OD grinding machine consists of two 11KW spindles mounted to a 180 degree indexable wheelhead. Two 350mm diameter grinding wheels are used in a peel-grinding process without limitation to the machining length. With this feature, the roughing wheel removes the majority of the stock and the finishing wheel is used very lightly to achieve final diameter, form and surface finish.
The high total mass of the machine as well as preloaded rails in conjunction with linear glass scales enable for production of parts with tight diameter tolerances, as long as temperature controlled coolant is being used. Highest surface finishes and roundness are achieved by dressing inside the machine with silicon carbide wheels and through the use of automatic balancing systems on the two direct drive spindles, which are water-cooled. The work head spindle with ISO 50 flange delivers high flexibility for short set-up times, so that parts can be ground in a chuck unsupported, or between centers, if the optional Tailstock is used.

Options include touch detection with acoustic sensor, bushing support with self-centering feature (AROBOTECH®) for long and slender parts, automatic loading systems and high-pressure coolant pumps.
